Enterprise Data Architect

We are currently looking for an enterprise data architect to be a hands-on leader in the governance, management and stewardship of data across the organization. This role will work with engineering, business leaders, security, and investor services teams to help understand and track the flow of data throughout Amherst and third party systems. Reporting to the Director of Datawarehouse and Business Intelligence, this position is critical towards establishing trusted data through careful data management and curation.
Duties and Responsibilities
We are seeking a hand-on technical data leader with demonstrated track record of data architecture and design:
  • Build and deploy Data Governance and data lineage systems to support data ownership and transparancy across the enterprise using tools such as Manta and Collibra
  • Architect data flow and master data management - Map, Rationalize, Model, and Manage master enterprise data
  • Design, Build and deploy Integrations – Build and deploy consistency and availability of core business data across the enterprise data landscape
  • Produce conceptual, logical and physical data models, interface specifications, data flow diagrams, and a range of other models as needed, using industry-leading modelling tools
  • Document the data architecture and environment in order to maintain a current and accurate view of the larger data picture
  • Develop, update and maintain Data Governance methodologies, including documentation, tools, approach, and identifying data owners
  • Act as the primary advocate of data modelling methodologies and data processing best practices
  • Select and assist in the implementation of the appropriate tools, software, applications, vendors and service providers to support company goals to solve data problems
  • Map data sources, document interfaces and data movement
  • Work with Business Leaders to architect current and future data needs
  • Architect, design and build new ETL layers across the enviroment. Provide recommendations and key changes to improve current data flow and ETL.
  • Support data engineering team with solving the most difficult problems and providing hands-on development assistance
Required Experience/Skills
  • 10+ years of prior experience in data architecture, data warehousing or data goverance
  • Experience in data modeling, data lineage, data quality, data cleansing
  • Experience architecting and deploying data governance tools
  • Must be versed in different approaches to data architecture and applications including traditional and modern Data warehousing concepts and Data Lakes
  • Demonstrate experience designing, deploying and maintaining architectures across Data Storage, Knowledge Discovery, Data Governance, Data Visualization and Data Security and Privacy
  • Experience building ETL workflows and familiarity with design principles
  • Experience with data warehouse architecutres - Normalized / Denormalized / Star / Snowflake / Kimball design concepts
  • Expert in MS SQL Server 2014/2016 and in writing TSQL scrips, stored procedures, views and triggers
  • Expertise in SQL Server performance tuning and troubleshooting enterprise data systems
  • Preferred experience in C#, .NET
  • Experience in financial services is a plus
